KATHAK DANCE ACADEMY

Aims to preserve and promote Kathak in the United States by mainstreaming this dance form into the local culture at the same time keeping its identity. Having strong roots of tradition Hasita wants to experience the universality of rhythm and movement which is not confined to any region or time.

Hasita Oza is the founder and Artistic Director of Kathak Dance Academy since 1985. Hasita imparts her knowledge passed on to her and combined it with her flare for creativity.

The Academy students follow Elementary, Intermediate and Advance levels of curriculum which is designed for the students in the USA. The students learn both aspects the Nritta or technique and the Nritya, or expression. Students are challenged by progressively complex curriculum at each level. Students also learn Yoga postures for flexibility, muscle tone and concentration. The theory aspect based on Abhinaya Darpana is introduced to students as a part of the curriculum.

Academy stages students' performances to provide a platform for budding dancers.

Along with teaching and performing the end goal is to encourage students to be sensitive to the nuances of this form, to explore, to experiment and be one with it !!
